The airline secured a firm order for 16 of these advanced aircraft, with the first unit – registered SU-GGE – recently arriving from Airbus’s production facility in Toulouse, France, to Cairo International Airport.
Modernizing Long-Haul Operations
The introduction of the A350-900 is part of EgyptAir’s ongoing effort to modernize its fleet. These aircraft offer a 25% reduction in fuel consumption compared to older generation planes, contributing to greater efficiency and sustainability. The A350s will feature a two-class cabin layout with a total of 340 seats: 30 in business class and 310 in economy. EgyptAir has confirmed that the new business class will provide direct aisle access for every passenger. The A350 deliveries will likely lead to the eventual retirement of some of EgyptAir’s older wide-body aircraft. The A350 offers comparable capacity to the Boeing 777, which averages 15 years of service within EgyptAir’s fleet. The Airbus A330, with an average age of 18 years, may also be phased out as the new A350s come online, providing a substantial capacity upgrade.
