Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) just added two new premium lounges in Terminal D, offering travelers a step up in comfort and service. The arrival of these lounges—including the first Plaza Premium First Lounge in the U.S. —expands options for passengers, especially those seeking a higher-end experience than standard airport facilities provide.
Plaza Premium First Lounge: A New Standard
The Plaza Premium First Lounge is a unique offering. Unlike typical airport lounges tied to airlines or credit cards, it caters to business and first-class passengers on select international carriers (Air France, EVA Air, Finnair, Emirates, and Turkish Airlines). For others, access is possible with a $45 entry fee (or $35 for children).
This lounge isn’t just about grabbing a quick bite; it’s designed for a more elevated experience. Instead of the usual buffet, the DFW location features table service with an à la carte menu inspired by both local flavors and the international destinations served from the terminal.
Expect dishes like braised duck tacos with Korean BBQ, fried green tomatoes with feta, Gulf red snapper with coconut curry, and a brisket biscuit Benedict. The bar stocks premium liquors like Grey Goose vodka and Kirin beer, with specialty cocktails such as a spicy pineapple margarita. Additional amenities include a Turkish tea service (coming soon) and complimentary shower and prayer rooms. For those who want to maximize convenience, Allways Meet & Assist offers expedited security and escort services for an extra fee.
Plaza Premium Lounge: Accessible Luxury
Next door, the standard Plaza Premium Lounge provides an alternative. Priority Pass members (often included with credit cards like the Amex Platinum) get access for themselves and up to two guests. This lounge offers 90-plus seats, a buffet, and complimentary beverages. Paid options include made-to-order meals like smashburgers ($12) and Korean fried chicken sandwiches ($10), along with cocktails at reasonable prices.
The space itself is familiar, as it occupies the site of the former American Express Centurion Lounge, though it has been completely renovated. The lounge will enforce a two-hour usage limit to prevent overcrowding.
Why This Matters
The expansion of luxury lounges in DFW highlights a growing trend in airport hospitality. Passengers increasingly demand premium experiences, and these lounges provide that. DFW Terminal D already boasts a Capital One Lounge, an Amex Centurion Lounge, and an American Airlines Flagship Lounge, making it a hub for upscale airport amenities. The new Plaza Premium additions fill gaps in the market, offering options for travelers who might not have access to airline-sponsored lounges or premium credit cards. These lounges are becoming essential for airlines hoping to attract high-value customers, and for travelers seeking a more comfortable pre-flight experience.
The arrival of these lounges signifies a shift toward greater customization and quality in airport amenities. As competition intensifies, we can expect more airlines and lounge operators to invest in elevated experiences that cater to discerning passengers.
