Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is now offering free Starlink Wi-Fi to passengers, beginning with its Airbus A320neo aircraft. The airline’s move comes after announcing plans in early 2025, and marks a significant step toward providing high-speed connectivity for travelers.

High-Speed Connectivity for Passengers

SAS is partnering with SpaceX to equip its fleet with Starlink, known for its fast, reliable internet service. The Wi-Fi will be available gate-to-gate, allowing passengers to stream, work, game, and stay connected throughout their flights. The service is free for all members of the EuroBonus loyalty program – which is also free to join – enabling multi-device connectivity.

This represents a major shift in in-flight experience. For years, airline Wi-Fi has often been slow, expensive, or unreliable. Starlink’s low-latency broadband aims to solve these problems, offering performance comparable to ground-based internet.

Rapid Adoption of Starlink by Airlines

SAS is just one of a growing number of airlines adopting Starlink. Other carriers already committed to the service include airBaltic, Air France, British Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, and United Airlines. The widespread interest underscores the increasing demand for high-quality in-flight connectivity.

This trend is driven by several factors:
* Passengers now expect seamless internet access as a standard amenity.
* The ability to work or entertain oneself during travel increases productivity and satisfaction.
* Starlink’s relatively quick installation process makes it an attractive option for airlines.

Phased Rollout and Future Expansion

SAS’ rollout begins with the A320neo fleet, which comprises roughly two-thirds of its total aircraft. The airline expects a “substantial share” of these planes to be connected before the summer season. Installation on wide-body aircraft will follow later this year, subject to regulatory approvals.

While a precise timeline remains unclear, SAS aims to have Starlink available across most of its fleet by some point in 2027. Passengers flying on A320neos in the coming months can expect to find Starlink Wi-Fi available on their flights.

“Connectivity has become a natural part of everyday life, including when travelling,” says Paul Verhagen, SAS’ Chief Commercial Officer. “With this launch, we are taking a major step toward offering our customers a more flexible, productive and enjoyable time on board.”

Conclusion

SAS’ deployment of Starlink Wi-Fi marks a turning point for in-flight connectivity. By making high-speed internet free for EuroBonus members, the airline is setting a new standard for passenger experience. The progressive rollout, starting with the A320neo fleet, signals a wider shift in the industry toward more reliable and accessible in-flight internet access.
