Korean Air Revamps LAX Lounge with $45 Million Upgrade

Korean Air is making significant investments in its passenger experience, finally addressing long-standing shortcomings compared to its Asian competitors. The latest step is a complete overhaul of its lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), reopening March 6, 2026, after a 22-month, $45 million redevelopment. This move is part of a broader effort to modernize Korean Air’s lounge network, including major renovations at Seoul Incheon Airport.

Expanded Space and Modern Design

The new Korean Air Lounge LAX spans two levels across 1,675 square meters (18,000 square feet) – a 25% increase in size compared to the previous facility. The design emphasizes natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony terrace overlooking the airport. The interior blends warm wood textures with premium stone materials, aiming for a contemporary take on Korean luxury.

Elevated Amenities Across Classes

The lounge is divided into three sections: First Class (sixth floor), and Miler Club/Prestige Class (fifth floor).

  • First Class: Includes two private suites, an à la carte dining area with made-to-order dishes, and a full-service bar offering custom cocktails.
  • Miler Club/Prestige Class: Features an open-kitchen live station where chefs prepare fresh dishes on-site. Guests can enjoy local Southern California craft beers, a signature Los Angeles coffee blend, and digital ordering via QR codes for Miler Club members.

The lounge also provides zoned areas for business work, family seating, and shower facilities for pre-flight refreshment. Access follows standard SkyTeam rules: First Class for first class passengers, Business Class for business class passengers and SkyTeam Elite Plus members, and Miler Club for select Korean Air loyalty program elites.

Strategic Improvements at LAX

This overhaul is a key part of Korean Air’s strategy to enhance its presence at LAX. The airline’s EVP and Chief of Inflight Service and Lounges, David Pacey, stated the lounge will “deliver a more refined and differentiated premium travel experience.” The revamp addresses the previous lounge’s shortcomings, which were historically considered among the weakest of any major international airline.

This improvement aligns with broader developments at LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), where other SkyTeam lounges – including Air France and Virgin Atlantic – have also been upgraded. The new Korean Air Lounge will likely serve as a primary contract lounge for many SkyTeam airlines and independent carriers, offering premium passengers more choices alongside the Delta One Lounge.

The overhaul of the LAX lounge marks a significant shift in Korean Air’s strategy to compete with other major airlines by investing in passenger comfort and experience. The lounge’s redesign and enhanced services are not just cosmetic upgrades; they signal a broader commitment to elevating the airline’s brand image and attracting premium travelers.
